Conferencing

Relationships with other agencies

  • The Attorney General is responsible for the overall operation of the Act.

  • The NSW Police Service is responsible for the operation of warnings and cautions.

  • The Department of Juvenile Justice is responsible for the operation of youth justice conferences.

The Youth Justice Conferencing Directorate works co-operatively with the NSW Police Service, the Attorney General's Department, Children's Courts and the Legal Aid Commission's Children's Legal Service at both state and local levels. The Directorate reports monthly to the YJAC on its activities and achievements.

Administrators work at the local level with personnel from these departments, in addition to working with personnel from other departments such as the Department of School Education and the Department of Community Services. They also work with numerous non-government organisations.
